David Caudle, our Wellness, Youth and Programs Director, has partnered with Wilson Endurance Club to add a new family friendly category to the Lake Wilson Trail Races happening Saturday, May 1 from 8 a.m. to Noon.
Lake Wilson Trail Races offers distance options for 2, 4, 6, 8 or unlimited miles (how many miles can you run/walk in 4 hours?).
Let us help guide you across the finish line! David has created a training plan to help you meet your goals, but you must sign up for the event to receive it. The plan is offered for distances of 2 and 4 miles. Interested in running longer distances? David will be glad to guide you through these as well. There is also a parent and child option for those who want to train and race together.
Lake Wilson Trail Races is an event started by the Wilson Endurance Club (wil.tri) in Memory of Mindy Pierce who was a club member and also member of the YMCA. Originally the group started what was known as the Jingle Bell Run held in December and brought 200 to 250+ runners to Cavalier Park each year. They then moved the event downtown to the Whirilgig Festival in November of 2019. With Covid hitting hard in 2020, the club decided to get creative and take the event to Lake Wilson where social distancing could be practiced with staggered start times to avoid gathering in a mass start.
Cost for the event is between $15 and $30, depending on the distance chosen. If you sign up yourself and your child at the same time you each will receive a $2.50 discount off registration.
