FIRST MIDDLE SCHOOL AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM UNDERWAY - MSAS CONSTRUCTION ACADEMY-WINTER 2021-SUMMER 2022
The exciting, new opportunity for local middle school students is underway and actively engaging these youth the second Tuesday of each month! Balfour Beatty, in joint venture with Holt Brothers, has partnered with the Healthcare Foundation of Wilson and the Wilson Family YMCA to offer this Construction Academy after school program for middle school students.
The Middle School After School (MSAS) Construction Academy program consists of an 18-month curriculum for middle school students that explores the construction industry alongside Balfour Beatty and Holt Brothers team members. Students have the opportunity to learn from industry-leading experts about careers in construction and career readiness, resume writing and interview skills, and the importance of teamwork and community engagement. Students also learn about construction operations, innovation and technology through building their own mock construction projects, flying drones, playing engineering games, participating in virtual and in-person job walks and more.

A wide range of input was gathered, especially from parents. We started the design process with community partners and Elm City and Darden students, but all middle schools and elementary schools will participate in the design process in the near future.
