Swim Lessons

At the Foundation YMCA

The Y is the nation’s leading expert in water safety and swim instruction. Ys across the country have adopted a swim lesson curriculum that makes it easier for children and adults to become comfortable and safe in and around water. Lessons begin with the development of basic self-rescue skills as well as gaining confidence and ease in the water. From there, swimmers refine the strokes they have learned and progress in their skills.

Parent and Child Lessons for ages 6 months - 3 years:
Parent Child Lessons start on Saturday, January 6th.  Parents or guardians and children are in the water for the swim lesson. During the lessons, children receive guidance on water skills and acclimation.  Younger children will be grouped in the 8:30am class and older children will be grouped in the 9:30 am class.

Youth Swim Lessons for ages 4 -13:
Sessions are divided into Monday/Wednesdays and Tuesdays/Thursdays.  During the first lesson, students will be assessed by skill and divided into their skill-level groups.  In their leveled groups they will begin working on skills needed to progress into the next level and become proficient swimmers.

Adult Swim Lessons for ages 14 and up:
Water Safety and Comfort classes meet on Thursdays from 11:45am to 12:30pm. These classes are an introduction to feeling safe and comfortable in the water.  The classes will aim to teach floating and survival strokes while moving at a pace that is comfortable for each participant.

Stroke Development:
Meeting on Wednesdays from 6:30pm -7:15pm, Stroke Development for adults will focus on refining strokes for efficiency and injury prevention.  This class will focus on the four competitive strokes: backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke, and freestyle.  Participants will improve their technique and stamina throughout this class.
