Girls on the Run is a national organization that "inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running." Girls on the Run is an opportunity for girls in 3rd to 5th grade to exhibit excellence in character in all aspects of their lives, make healthy choices and build confidence. This ten-week program meets twice a week for 90 minutes after school. The season culminates with a 5K, which they will run with a running buddy. Completing the 5K gives the girls a great sense of accomplishment as well as a framework for setting and achieving their goals. This program is led by trained volunteer coaches, and we are always looking for anyone interested in improving a girl's life and making a difference in the community.

STRIDE began at the YMCA of Greater Brandywine when a group of parents requested a boys' program combining a character building emphasis with the fun of fitness, similar to the girls' program. STRIDE is success, teamwork, respect, inspiration, determination equals excellence in character. The purpose of this program is to foster strong character and healthy living habits among boys in 3rd-5th grades.  It is a fun, interactive program filled with games and activities that gets boys exploring and discussing important life topics, while participating in fitness & running activities - which helps them build the stamina and confidence to complete a 5K. We are looking for volunteer coaches to make a difference in their community and wanting to impact someone's life. If you are interested please contact David Caudle (dcaudle@wilsonymca.org).
