New Responsibilities. New Opportunities. New Building. New Afterschool Network

Healthcare Foundation of Wilson made a bold commitment of $25,000,000 to build a brighter future for all Wilson’s middle school students and partnered with the Foundation YMCA to realize their vision.  The Healthcare Foundation of Wilson and the Foundation YMCA is committed to building a brighter future for all our children and our community.

We are a new Middle School After School program coming to Wilson this fall! With the gracious support and funding provided by the Healthcare Foundation of Wilson, we will be able to support your child(ren) in school and during our after-school programming. Each of the five middle schools in Wilson County will have an assigned Youth Coordinator who will spend some time with your child(ren) in their school environment and at the after-school program. Y-GIG helps to create a level of support that spills over into the daily lives of Wilson’s youth.

Our programming offers 50 diverse activities for students to select based on their interests. The programming focuses on five areas: academics, arts and humanities, college and career, health and wellness, and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). In addition, Wilson community partners have provided various activities for Wilson’s youth to immerse themselves in the opportunities that Wilson gives them.

One benefit this program delivers to the families enrolled in that Wilson County Public Middle Schools students will have transportation from their school to the Foundation YMCA building. Additionally, this transportation will allow families to have their child(ren) bussed back to their feeder school instead of coming into town to pick them up from the Foundation YMCA building.

Families with children attending a private, charter school, and/or homeschool will all be able to participate in the Y-GIG Program; however, parents will be responsible for transportation to and from the Foundation YMCA building. We are a Middle School After School program that welcomes ALL 6th-8th grade students in Wilson County.
